This is a very well made, VERY sharp mandolin. I sliced cucumbers paper thin, as well as tomatoes. Please follow the safety guidelines as it is surgically sharp! Keep that plastic blade guard for storage and ALWAYS use utmost care when cleaning. Make sure you use the vegetable holder (included) when slicing. I cannot stress enough how sharp this tool is. NEVER let a child near it. I love that it came with protective gloves. Instructions were poor and I had trouble figuring out how to adjust the blade, as the julienne feature locks. Took me a minute to figure out how to release it. I also suggest you store it in the box it came in. I love this thing...it really works well, is very balanced, smooth movement and slices effortlessly. You will not be disappointed.

Sure it’s easier to get out a knife and slice produce, but this mandolin is easy to use, easy to clean, it slices onions and store bought tomatoes like a champ! I’m growing my own tomatoes and can’t wait to see how it performs with a fresh one. They are usually a little more soft than greenhouse raised tomatoes. I can tell from slicing the onion that potatoes will be excellently sliced, too. The thickness can be adjusted ( not sure what the settings are but they’re given somewhere in the packaging or on the product page). Maybe up to 1/4 inch thick. The produce I sliced was paper thin.
This is a sharp object so keep the blade guard and have a healthy respect for the blade. Don’t leave it with a child. It’s like a knife just set up in a runway device. It came with a pair of protective gloves, a brush to help clean anything that might get hung, and the piece to help you hold produce and keep your hands safe. I’m very happy with this purchase!

All in all, it's worth it.

I wanted a cabbage shredder and the ones with three blades are difficult to use. So, I did a little research and ordered this one. Because it has an adjustable blade, I was able to shred the cabbage nice and thin. I shredded 10 lbs of cabbage, got it in the fermenting crock and cleaned everything up in less than two hours. As long as you follow the instructions, it is very safe to use. I used it only with the glove for a minute, but it cut through the glove (didn't cut me), so I went back to the tool that comes with the mandoline. Very sharp, very smooth to use. Worked great for me.

Slices perfectly. Cleans easily. The food holder works great! Use it and your fingers never even get close to the blade. The wires that hold the food in place retract as the slicing continues. By the time you get to the last slice, the wires have completely retracted making even the last slice perfect. The slice adjuster comes completely out of the mandoline for quick and easy cleaning. It seems to be made well . I am very glad I made the purchase. I have not yet tried to julienne, but I am sure it will also work well.
